Many new ideas for the upcoming celebration year

Summer in the city – still an interested crowd of 30 people gathered this Thursday, July 20, to discuss the upcoming celebration year of 2018 when Sweden and Japan will celebrate 150 years of diplomatic relations.

The Embassy of Japan in Stockholm will have the overall coordination responsibility for activities taking place in Sweden. A ”Support Secretariat” has been established. It consists of a number of organizations which are promoting the understanding of and contacts with Japan.  Sweden-Japan Foundation’s Secretary-General Edvard Fleetwood is together with Prof Kazuhiko Kawasaki, Project 2018, coordinating the Support secretariat, which will administrate a homepage with information of activities taking place, news etc.

Present at the meeting were representatives for the Embassy of Japan, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Japanese companies (Mitsubishi Corp, Tomoku House), the Swedish Haiku Association, The Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, The Japanese Association in Stockholm, and several other persons with a strong interest in Japan.

Mr. Roger Klein informed about the procedure for applying via the Embassy homepage for participating in the celebrations and using the special logotype.

The plan is to launch the webpage for the celebrations taking place in Sweden during the second half of August 2017.

An informal and relaxed after work ended the evening – providing an inspired atmosphere before letting people return back out in the summer city. Thanks a lot to everyone who came. Let’s meet again soon!
