Sweden-Japan Foundation (SJF) och Scandinavia-Japan Sasakawa Foundation (SJSF) utlyser stipendier för studier, forskning samt examensarbete och praktik på högskolenivå i Japan.

SJFs stipendier är främst avsedda för studier  inom teknik, naturvetenskap, ekonomi, juridik, medicin och handel och för SJSFs stipendier tillkommer samhällsvetenskap, humaniora och journalistik samt att även organisationer är berättigade att söka.

Studenter och yngre forskare från samtliga universitet och högskolor i Sverige är behöriga att söka anslag.

The Japan Foundation har flera olika stipendieprogram för att främja japansk
kultur, japanska språket och intellektuellt utbyte med Japan. Många av
programmen riktar sig till organisationer, men några riktar sig till
enskilda personer inom vissa kategorier. Ansökningsperioden har
nu börjat för projekt som äger rum mellan 1 april 2012 och 31 mars
2013.

Poetry for Peace Contest.

Till och med den 14 oktober 2011 pågår poesitävlingen Poetry for Peace
Contest. Skicka in ditt eget bidrag, eller rösta på andras bidrag via
Facebook. Arrangeras av japanska UD och Förenta nationerna.

Skolåret i Japan börjar i april och utresa sker därför i mars 2012. Du kommer i Japan att bo en värdfamilj och gå i den lokala skolan under året. När du anländer kommer du att delta i ungefär en veckas läger där ni även studerar japanska. Ungefär var tredje månad under året ordnars träffar för studenterna så att YFU kan följa upp och ser hur det går för er. Innan programmet slut ordnas ett hemreseläger för studenterna. Under året finns det möjlighet att delta i lite olika resor och utflykter som YFU organiserar.

Programpris: 59 900 kr (inkluderar försäkring; värde ca 7 000 kr)

Språkkrav: Det är inte ett krav att du har studerat japanska när du ansöker men har du inte studerat innan förväntas du börja studera japanska när du blivit antagen så att du har baskunskaper när du anländer till Japan. Studierna behöver inte ske i gymnasieskolan.

Talk outline:

When most people hear the phrase ”innovative research,” they tend to
think of innovation for the sake of economic growth or research which
will contribute to a more convenient lifestyle. It is my belief,
however, that such striving for economic growth, and for a better and
more convenient lifestyle could ironically produce very adverse effects,
and could, in fact, ultimately be the downfall of human civilization and
even the cause of human extinction.  Such extreme scenarios do not
generally occur to us as we go about our daily lives, but it is very
likely that our current modes of thinking with regards to innovation and
progress present a very real and imminent threat which could manifest
itself and cause irreversible damage within the next 50 years. This is
what I like to term ”the paradox of growth towards extinction,” the
first paradox that I would like to address.  We have reached a point at
which we must redefine our notion of innovation for the sake of our
permanent survival on this planet.

I would also like to consider the question of whether or not
contemporary academic society is responding appropriately to the
paradigm shift needed to solve the complex problems such as global
warming, shortage of natural resources, water, energy that we currently
face. The second paradox is that our quest for knowledge for better
understanding is, contrary to our wishes, unfortunately toward blindness
if we stick to the form that it takes in our academic institutions at
present.  Actually the current form results in an inability to see the
issues we face from a wide perspective. I call this the paradox of
”knowledge towards blindness.”

To avoid a severe conflict among ever-increasing population and ever
growing wishes for better life despite of our very limited environment
and finite natural resources on our Planet, we may have a fate to
develop our civilization toward Solar System Civilization at least for
the next thousand years.

These matters will be presented in my talk (including the role of space
science and space development). I also wish to touch upon the recent
Nuclear Power Plant accident and a related possible solution for better
energy systems utilizing space technology such as Space Solar Power
Station (SPS).  The SPS is being scheduled to step forward as a Space
Strategy by the Japanese Government.

About the speaker:

Professor Matsumoto is currently President of Kyoto University.
Previously he has held positions as Executive Vice President of Research
and Finance, Director of the Research Institute for Sustainable
Humanosphere, and Director of the Radio Science Center for Space and
Atmosphere, all at Kyoto University.  He has received numerous awards
and honours, including: the URSI Gold Booker Medal, the Russian
Federation of Cosmonautics Gagarin Medal, the IEEE Fellow Award, and the
AGU Fellow Award for Space Plasma Physics.  Professor Matsumoto has
published 297 scientific papers in English in international journals and
133 scientific papers in Japanese, and has authored and contributed to
several books.

The lecture is arranged by the Alfvén Laboratory and supported by the
Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences through its Nobel Institute for Physics.

 

Festivalen syftar till att ge en inblick i den japanska tecknade filmens
historia och utveckling. Den första delen, Anime Classics, är en unik
möjlighet att se riktigt gammal japansk tecknad film som man normalt inte
brukar ha möjlighet att se. Sedan rör vi oss framåt i tiden via
manga-mästaren Osamu Tezuka och den magiska hjältinnan Sailor Moon till
några exempel på nutida anime. Vi får till och med lära oss vad ganime är.

Candidates should hold a doctorate or at least a Master’s degree. They are eligible during the ten-year period following the successful completion of their Ph.D or MA degree. Extensions to the ten-year rule are possible in principle in case of exceptional circumstances which should be explained in the application and supporting documents are required. Non-nationals have to have a permanent citizenship in either Europe or Japan.

The European Fellowship holders pursue a period of research in Japan whereas the Japanese Fellows do their research at host institutions in Europe. The Fellowships are awarded for periods of a minimum three months and maximum of one year. Applications for Research Fellowships in all fields of research are welcome.

The aim of the Foundation is to contribute to international understanding, in particular between Europe and Japan.

The deadline for the year 2012 is 15 September 2011.

Stiftelsen för internationalisering av högre utbildning och forskning (STINT) kan genom ett samarbete med Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) erbjuda stipendier till nyblivna doktorer respektive doktorander nära examen för upp till ett års vistelse vid universitet i Japan.

Sista ansökningsdag är 19 juni.
